Garden Campus

Nestled between Warden Road and the coast, our Garden Campus is school for our Foundation Stage and lower Primary classes. We are the oldest international school in Mumbai, and this quaint, Victorian-era bungalow has been home to DSB since 1967.

After school, the garden often plays host to fun extracurricular activities such as football and tennis. Over the course of the year, the garden will be lit with lantern parades for Lantern fest, bright with lights for our annual Diwali performance, and become a stage for our oldest primary students’ December productions. Also, we host a German Christmas Market where parents from all parts of the world provide food stalls and the students arrange musical performances and games. During Easter, the youngest learners participate in an Easter egg hunt often accompanied by a visit from the Easter bunny.

The school is fully secured with entry via turnstiles operated by ID cards and a full network of CCTVs. Our team of five security staff ensures complete policing of the perimeter. A trained nurse is present on site for the medical needs of the students.

Euro Campus

Home to grades 3 - 12, a mix of small and large rooms on each floor provides ideal spaces for both full-class lessons and small tutorial groups. The sixth floor is dedicated to the three Science laboratories providing opportunities for practical experimentation to nurture our learners' spirit of inquiry. The Art and Design and Technology rooms inspire creativity and enable students to bring their designs to fruition supported by a wide range of technical equipment including laser cutters, 3D printers, and pile drills. The soundproof Music room and practice suites allow learners to embrace their love of Music and compose their own works. Our oldest learners following the IB Diploma Programme, enjoy a large area with three classrooms, a library, and self-study areas on the first floor, providing them with all they need to focus on this most important stage of their learning. High-quality audio-visual equipment and excellent wi-fi throughout the school mean the learning of all our students benefits from diverse IT and multimedia resources to enhance the authenticity and relevance of what they are learning. Healthy bodies are crucial for healthy minds and our rooftop sports area, swimming pool and indoor multi-use recreational area ensure that our students have plenty of opportunities to enjoy both curricular and extracurricular sporting activities.

Living our Values (an authentic learning community)

We are a school that has clear expectations of learning that align with our vision and are described by our learning aims. These underpin our global values statements which inform everything that happens in school, from our chosen pedagogy to our celebration of the positive, and our methods of addressing issues.

A clear example of our values is the school policy of Diversity Equity and Inclusion. We are a school that reflects the diversity of our home nation and our international community. We are a school in which your social locator is not a barrier to accessing a rich learning experience, developing a positive self image, having your voice heard. or for professional advancement.

Daily the teaching and learning across the school reflects our values, but we also explicitly build opportunities to develop these in students.

An important event in every semester is our cross curricular week. Each semester all students come off timetable and work in vertical teams on specific projects. Often these reflect the Global Sustainability Goals and recent themes have included how Protest Art can be used to highlight these or one project led by the Design and Technology and Geography teachers in which the learners designed sustainable cities.

From Primary school upwards we provide many opportunities to develop their character in alignment with these values. This year we are introducing the Junior Duke Award which leads up to the International Award for Young People. For these students are required to engage with social programmes. We have many examples - but ones which remain constant favourites are the Beach Clean up Programmes and Welfare for Stray Dogs. Many of our students also engage in educational support - working with younger learners in school at nearby schools such as Akanksha and Hamara Pathway. These awards also require students to get out into the wild - a vital need in this highly urbanised community. Through doing this, they challenge themselves physically but also gain a greater and more meaningful understanding of the value of environmental protection. Being a truly authentic learning community - we do not expect you to take our word for it, hear from some of our students, teachers and parents.

Local and Global (preparing our changemakers)

Internationalism is a cornerstone of the international educational community and strongly embedded in the mission of the International Baccalaureate and in the Council for International Schools - both of which we are members. The phrase “Think Global, act Local’ is powerful and Gandhi’s words - ‘Be the change you want to see in the world’ embody our hopes and aspirations for our learners.

Safeguarding (keeping our learners safe)

Safeguarding is one of the pillars of high quality international education. Under the auspices of the safeguarding umbrella are many subjects: most importantly.

Child Protection, Safe Recruitment, the Staff Code of Conduct, Health and Safety and Safe working practices, Wellbeing, anti-bullying and ethical practices in employment and procurement.

All of these are codified through school policy and developed in the curriculum, so that they are integrated into our day to day life. Ensuring our students are safe and happy has been fundamental for us since 1961. We have a particular commitment to Child Protection. Our Child Protection Team of four teachers lead training and awareness raising sessions for all staff, parents and students and monitor the Senior Management team and HR to ensure Safer Recruitment practices are followed. We have built strong collaborative links with the medical profession in Mumbai so we are best prepared to support our students' physical and mental health and wellbeing. We work with professionals and international organisations to ensure that our facilities and working practices meet the highest international standards. Importantly Mumbai suffers from variable air quality. Air quality outside the building is monitored several times each day at both campuses to establish if it safe for outdoors physical education, whilst high air quality is maintained within both buildings through the state of the art AQi installations.

Another important factor considered by safeguarding is the transitional nature of education. Students at DSB transfer through the different programmes, transfer from Garden Campus to Euro Campus and ultimately transfer up to university. Careful and sensitive management of each of these stages and verticalisation of content and skills development through the DSB curriculum ensures seamless progress and uninterrrupted learning. The final stage is guided by our University Counsellor who works individually with students to help them choose university courses appropriate to their interests and capabilities, and ensures that all our graduates move on to study at universities of their choice. They are also there to support transition to schools in other countries - an important consideration for our international families.
